App To Monitor Phone Usage Iphone
It may seem silly to add an app to free up time for interacting with the real world. Do you really need to check your phone to see how often you’re checking your phone? Holesh said friends were skeptical at first.
Installed this app on the advice of a friend who was really surprised when its features revealed how much screen time she was spending every day. Figured I could also benefit from something like that, so I installed it 3 months ago. Definitely made me realize I need to cut down on browsing aimlessly, but there are problems. For one, it’s not been very accurate in counting the minutes at least half a dozen times. (Sometimes it strangely fails to record time spent online). Got the updated version a few days ago, and it was really intrusive. The alerts that pop up by default were needlessly frequent & filled with language that made me feel like a 5 year old. I changed their frequency in the settings after a day of this moralizing tone. Interface text sounds pretty much the same—annoying as heck, especially when it constantly asks to be enabled to access Settings to connect to certain apps to collect more specific information about where you need to reduce screen time. Ultimately, I’m glad I have this app to check in occasionally to figure out when I need to log off. If you are one of those who are on some higher mission to attain great mindfulness, you can probably tolerate this app much better. I’m just not looking for that myself. I have meditation apps, and I just need to use this one as a simple counter.
Thanks for your feedback, Jojo. I'm glad Moment was working well for you at first and I thought I'd explain the rest of what you're seeing. Moment counts all of your screen time, whether you're actively tapping around inside an app or the phone is just sitting there untouched. If the screen is on, Moment is counting that as "screen time." That means things like using Maps while you're driving is constantly counted as screen time. For most of Moment's customers, their screen time measurement and app usage measurement (from the screenshots) is within 95% of each other. There's a few factors, explained in the FAQ, as to why those numbers don't match up 100% some of the time. In any case, Moment definitely does not inflate your screen time on purpose in order to sell the upgrade. That would be profoundly unethical and I do not take part in anything of the sort. There are situations where Moment will inaccurately calculate actual active screen time, like the Maps example I mentioned, but this is not done on purpose and I'm always working to prevent situations like this. I do a stopwatch test for each version of the app where I have a dedicated stopwatch I start/stop when I use my phone for 7 days to get a secondary measurement of screen time. Moment is always within seconds of being accurate when I release it. I hope that helps explain things! ~Kevin Creator of Moment
