Child Monitoring Device

Many services let you monitor contacts and messages and keep an eye out for potentially dangerous or unsanctioned situations. You can even block new contacts or view message content with some parental control software. Keep in mind that this primarily applies to SMS texts; messaging apps such as WhatsApp or Snapchat typically do not fall under the same scope. Social media tracking can also provide a glimpse into your child's social life, though many services now only monitor Facebook. This kind of oversight usually requires that you either know your child's login credentials or convince them to log in and install the tracker's app. Disabling this kind of data collection is a snap for the child, so here, more than ever, you need to be on the same page.

The best services apply these two ideas to individual desktop and mobile applications as well. Qustodio, for example, can block apps entirely and set time usage limits. This is particularly useful for children who have a habit of playing games or using social media apps when they should be doing homework.

Long gone are the days when a single parental control utility on the family PC was sufficient for keeping your kids safe and productive. Modern kids use all kinds of internet-connected devices, and modern parental control systems must keep up.

Many devices have been proposed for the monitoring the location of a person carrying the device. Most of the prior art describes sophisticated radio frequency transmitters with associated receivers. U.S. Pat. No. 4,675,656 Narcisse, describes a radio frequency having a base unit transmitter that transmits a signal to a mobile receiving unit having a threshold circuit adjustable to a prescribed distance. The receiver producing a threshold output signal whenever the detected signal drops below the threshold level. U.S. Pat. No. 4,736,196 McMahon, describes a radio frequency system for monitoring the location of an individual having a band incorporating a transmitter strapped to the wrist or ankle.

The present invention employs two or more transceivers operating in the radio or ultra sonic frequency ranges. The first transceiver to be carried by the child's guardian and the second transceiver to be attached to the child. The transceiver attached to the child constantly transmits a signal to the monitoring transceiver which converts the signal and emits an audio tone. The guardians transceiver incorporates a threshold receiving circuit which causes the unit to emit an audible warning signal if the child strays, or is moved, beyond a predetermined distance, if the child is immersed in water, or if the child's tranceiver is removed from the child. A signal transmitted from the guardian's tranceiver will activate an audio alarm in the child's transceiver as an assist in locating the child.
